News agencies in the Los Angeles area reported on Friday that a suspect who may be the so-called “Sports Bike Bandit” has been arrested after attempting to rob a bank in Long Beach, California. Given that label by the FBI because he wore motorcycle gear to hide his identity and used a sportbike as a getaway vehicle for his heists, the person has been suspected as being responsible for seven bank robberies over the past 12 months in the Southern California area. He was arrested after security guards and bank customers tackled and disarmed him as he was attempting to rob the Farmers and Merchants Bank at about 10:30 am. Three people, including the suspect, were injured in gunfire that erupted as he was being wrestled to the ground; none were hurt seriously. Local news footage showed police moving the suspect’s getaway vehicle, which appeared to be a second-gen Yamaha R1 with red duct tape and cellophane plastic plastered over all the bodywork in an apparent attempt to hide its actual color.

The FBI had released bank surveillance camera photos of the Sports Bike Bandit a few weeks ago, showing a person wearing a full-face helmet, jacket and gloves. News photos of the aftermath of the latest bank robbery attempt show a helmet that appears to be the same one in the FBI surveillance camera photos sitting on the floor of the bank, leading to news agency assumptions that this is the same person.

No wonder the bank tellers and managers were staring at me as I walked up to my local bank fully clad in motorcycle gear the other day. I’m smart enough not to walk into the bank with my helmet on, however; I took it off before walking in the door, putting them a bit more at ease. I found out later that it’s standard procedure at most banks to prepare to send an alarm if a helmeted person enters a bank. So don’t be a lazy fool and walk into your local bank with your helmet on. Not with yahoos like this guy giving us yet another negative stereotype we don’t need.



'Sport Bike Bandit' photos released by FBI

LONG BEACH (KABC) -- The FBI and Long Beach Police have released surveillance photos as they seek information leading to the arrest of the "Sport Bike Bandit".

Investigators say the bandit, or group of bandits, have been linked to at least seven bank robberies in the past two months. All of the robberies have occurred in Los Angeles County.

Investigators don't know if the bandit is committing the bank robberies alone or with others, however, law enforcement began using title "Sport Bike Bandit" after the unidentified male conducted a takeover-style bank robbery in 2008 wearing a black motorcycle helmet and leather jacket, as well as a colored bandana and black sunglasses.

In recent robberies, the bandit's helmet has been described as having black or orange, shiny tape on it.

During the robberies linked to this bandit, witnesses have indicated that a male enters the bank alone and draws one or more weapons, described as either a semi-automatic handgun or a revolver; the bandit has ordered customers and bank employees to the floor in some cases. During one of the robberies, the bandit temporarily took a hostage while waiting for tellers to comply with his demands. The bandit has been described as having fled the bank on a sport-type motorcycle; last described as a red or burgundy sport-bike, possibly a Honda.

Investigators say that during the first robbery in Long Beach on July 25, 2008, a male individual wearing a black motorcycle helmet came into the bank with at least one handgun and committed a takeover-style bank robbery by indicating a robbery was taking place and ordering victims to put their hands on the counter. After taking money from the bank, the robber fled the scene on a sport type motorcycle with California plates that may have contained the letter J.

Investigators say that during the robberies, the bandit wore a leather jacket and leather gloves. The bandit has been described by witnesses as nervous and as having his hand inside a black duffle bag. Witnesses have stated the bandit has no accent, uses profanity and has pointed his weapons at victims.

Witnesses describe the suspect as a male Caucasian or Hispanic between 30 and 40-years-old and five foot five inches to five foot eight inches with a medium build.

'Sport Bike Bandit' suspect faces 132 years in prison for F&M, other robberies

LOS ANGELES -- A federal grand jury on Friday returned an indictment charging a 51-year-old Long Beach man, dubbed the "Sport Bike Bandit," for three separate Long Beach bank robberies.

If convicted on the full charge, Robert Gordon Lockwood faces 132 years in federal prison, said Thom Mrozek, a spokesman for the US Attorney's Office.

The eight page indictment charges Robert Gordon Lockwood with the armed robberies of three Long Beach banks: the Citibank, 2250 Bellflower Blvd., on Dec. 15; Cal National Bank, 5757 E. Pacific Coast Highway on Jan. 26, and the March 5 take-over robbery of Farmers and Merchants Bank, 2302 Bellflower Blvd.

Lockwood took $8,057 from Citibank, $3,958 from Cal National Bank and $606 from F&M, according to court documents.

In addition to the counts of armed robbery, Lockwood is also charged with three counts of brandishing a firearm and "assaulting and (putting) in jeopardy the lives of victim" employees and/or customers.

The gun used in the Dec. 15 and Jan. 26 robberies was referred to simply as a "black handgun of unknown model and manufacturer."

In the counts pertaining to the F&M robbery, the indictment states Lockwood carried two guns, "a .45-caliber Springfield Army 1911-A1 semi-automatic handgun ... and a Smith and Wesson .357 magnum revolver."

The indictment also charges Lockwood -- who owns a machine shop in Signal Hill -- fired the revolver during the course of the March 5 robbery.

Lockwood was arrested that day after a Long Beach man, Rich Camp, tackled Lockwood. Camp was then helped by Long Beach resident David Jones to disarm the suspect and hold him there until Long Beach Police arrived.
Lockwood came into the bank threatening to shoot everyone and screaming obscenities, witnesses said.

Lockwood also grabbed a deposit bag from a customer who happened to walk in right after him, then shoved the man to the floor, witnesses said.

Camp said he was pinned against the counter that separates customers from employees and when Lockwood pointed the gun at him and told him he would shoot him before starting to launch over the divider.

Camp jumped on Lockwood's back and Lockwood opened fire, emptying the barrel of the revolver as he shot over his shoulder and between his legs at Camp, according to court documents.

The gunman struck himself, Camp and another customer, described as an elderly woman.

None of them suffered life-threatening injuries, police said. And Lockwood was transferred to federal custody after a couple of days under armed guard at a local hospital, according to police and the FBI.

Camp, who runs his small construction business out of his Long Beach home, has since filed a law suit against the bank, alleging that it was not properly secured -- despite FBI warnings the previous month of the two-year crime spree carried out by the "Sport Bike Bandit."

The suit cites a lack of bullet proof partitions for bank employees and claims there was only one guard working and that he was "socializing in the bank parking lot" when the gunman stormed the business that Friday morning.

At the time of his arrest, Lockwood told a Long Beach police officer he held-up the bank because he was deep in debt and unable to pay the mortgage on the East Long Beach home he shares with his wife, Pamela Lockwood.

If Lockwood is convicted on all counts, he faces a maximum sentence of 75 years for the three robbery counts and an additional charge of 57 years for the use of the gun, Mrozek said.

Because it is a federal offense, he would also have to serve 85 percent of the time received.

Lockwood is scheduled to appear in federal court Monday morning, in Downtown Los Angeles, for arraignment, Mrozek said.

We warned it would happen and it happened as we warned. “Off with their heads! Off with their heads!” chanted the angry mob as they attacked the Royal Rolls Royce carrying Prince Charles and his wife Camilla.

Tennessee traffic fatalities up over 2009 figure

KNOXVILLE (WATE) - Tennessee traffic fatalities this year already have exceeded those of 2009, reversing a three-year trend.

So far in 2010, 1,008 people have died in state wrecks, already more than the 989 killed in all of last year.

"We would like to have kept it under 1000 for another year," said Tennessee Highway Patrol Lt. Don Baird.

There were 1,211 fatalities in 2007 and 1,043 in 2008.

"We've had an unusual number of multiple fatalities in single wreck crashes and that adds to your numbers quickly," Lt. Baird said.

Fatal wrecks in rural counties are trending up, and troopers link this to less use of seat belts. The usage rate statewide is around 87% but in rural areas under 80.

Lt. Baird is also urging drivers to be extra cautious. The upcoming holidays translate into more people behind the wheel traveling longer distances and facing more distractions

"There's going to be people on the interstates and highway that are going to be from out of town. They don't know the area. They don't know where the exits are," he said.

One encouraging figure this year is in the Memphis district of the Tennessee Highway Patrol, where traffic fatalities have declined by 26 from 2009.

Traffic fatalities are up 28 in the Chattanooga district and 26 in the Knoxville district, areas that are considered rural outside the cities of Chattanooga and Knoxville.

Trooper, cop injured in I-40 wreck

A Monday morning crash sent two law enforcement officers, including Tennessee Highway Patrol Trooper Fidencio Medina, to a pair of hospitals in Nashville.

The crash occurred shortly after 7 a.m. on Interstate 40 westbound near mile marker 192 in Davidson County.

The preliminary investigation indicates Trooper Medina, who is assigned to Cheatham County, was responding to a non-injury, single-vehicle crash, when a 2004 Chevy Silverado, driven by Anthony Gene Baker Jr., lost control and collided into his patrol car, according to the THP.

The impact pushed the trooper’s car into a Metro Police Department patrol unit, which had arrived on scene to take over the initial property crash investigation.

Standing outside of his vehicle, Trooper Medina was discussing the crash with Metro Officer Cesar Castillo, who had not yet exited his patrol car, when the westbound pickup struck the vehicles, the THP reported.

Medina suffered a broken leg, four broken ribs, as well as a collapsed lung. He was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center and was scheduled to undergo surgery Monday afternoon.

Metro officer Cesar Castillo, who is assigned to the West Precinct, was taken to Saint Thomas Hospital for a non-critical back injury.

Baker, 35, of New Johnsonville, was not cited.

This is just some general statements on the whole your a squid if you aren't on the track 24/7 mentality..

We have a big event at Deals Gap every year (this year marks the 10th year). It is one of the most fun weeks you'll ever spend. We also have track events we attend regularly.

The whole mentality of drawing a line between racers and street riders is a weird line sometimes.. You'll have riders that do both (street and track ride) and others that strictly only track ride and call anyone on the street in a jacket a squid. When a self proclaimed fast guy rides on the street to say he has never ridden a wheelie or dropped a knee on the ground is usually bs but either way some of those guys ride the gap daily and after 6 it's usually a ghost town out there and they are responsible for themselves.

For me it's all about the riding itself and promoting the sport as a whole. Is it totally safe no and should it have been done .. Not really but do each of us do crazy stuff on the sport we love... YES

I suggest getting out and riding and not worrying so much about what others are doing as long as your are paying attention while you are riding and being safe. Have fun with the sport. I love the track and wish I could be on it every day but also cannot live without a romp in the mountains after a stressful week of work and if you've never done a tour of the country on a bike you need to.

I have said that to tell you this. By no means are we trying to replace ETR or compete nor take members from here. I would like to think of it as a second resource. Second to this wonderful site. We want to do a few things different. Like a place for the women riders and regions for quick gatherings, and to get to know people close to you. This doesn't not mean that Dustin nor I are leaving this site to create our own to take over. With the Web Site we would like to try to do alot of things like Fund raisers, Charities, and special events. I deeply hope that our family here on ETR does not take this the wrong way, our intentions are good.

The main difference is ETR is a forum, a great forum. ORIGINAL TITLE: Court says Dragon speed limit is 65 mph - Dragonater Note: This was my first post on EastTnBikers.com, and literally my very first words were censored within 12 hours, and all URL links were banned and changed to "STUPID" pictures by pissed off pigs. An ETBPig added to the end of the post, "Hi My name is Stupid...." But not even ETB Piggies dared censor Comments praising the genius of The Dragonater.

This week the Blount County general sessions court agreed with the Blount County attorney general and TDOT that the speed limit on the Dragon at Deals Gap is 65 MPH, not the posted alleged limit of 30.

The charge of speeding at 60 MPH was dismissed with prejudice, with costs paid by the State.

Tennessee Dept of Transportation admitted in writing that the mandatory Traffic Engineering Survey Speed Audit had never been done to justify reduction of the 55 MPH speed limit to 30 MPH on the Dragon. TN Code says the default speed limit is 65 MPH. Attorney J Matthew Elrod agrees, the current speed limit on the Dragon is 65 MPH.

Posting a speed limit without a Speed Audit is a violation of TN Code and violation of court order, because reducing a speed limit below the average speed of traffic increases the death rate...which is exactly what happened. A Safety Audit is not a Speed Audit, since there was no measurement of the 85th-Percentile Speed of traffic.

After the TDOT Safety Audit and $1-million in highway improvements, the death rate increased 400% on the Dragon, despite over 500,000 tourists boycotting the Police State of TN in Blount County, where THP increased biker tickets 11,400%, while almost every other county got a 30% reduction.

Video of the THP traffic stop - Trooper admits his speed trap is illegal for Northbound traffic at Mile Marker 0.5, since he admits that is Federal jurisdiction. The trooper also appears to not have his radar turned on, proving perjury in court. He had so many motorcycles pulled over at one time, that riders had to take a number and wait in line to get their ticket.

Sgt Huckeby's entire personnel file was obtained under the Tennesee Open Records Act, which revealed not only that he's the #1 ticket writer in TN, but that he's paid over $100,000 salary. All troopers get an annual review, which requires them to testify under penalty of perjury to "never violate traffic laws". Video in the court case proved that Sgt Huckeby illegally breaks the posted speed limit at all times when driving on the Dragon. Cops only get immunity to traffic laws when using emergency lights and siren.

Also obtained under the TN Open Records Act is the 2007 TDOT Safety Audit Review, which banned all commercial businesses on the Dragon, and THP's Stalker radar operator manual admitting that radar does not work.

"The Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP) has decided to take action in eliminating commercial activity along state right-of-way in the project area. This enforcement is intended to disallow persons from taking photographs of vehicles and motorcyclists with the intent of selling the photographs at a later date. The THP contends this activity is a hazard o public safety. It is recommended that signs be placed at the entrance of each end of the route advising this policy."

Bottom line, most (if not all) traffic tickets on the Dragon can result in cops being arrested for felony Official Oppression under TN Code, and sued in civil court for false arrest and malicious prosecution.

5. Sidetrack opponents with name calling and ridicule. This is also known as the primary 'attack the messenger' ploy, though other methods qualify as variants of that approach. Associate opponents with unpopular titles such as 'kooks', 'right-wing', 'liberal', 'left-wing', 'terrorists', 'conspiracy buffs', 'radicals', 'militia', 'racists', 'religious fanatics', 'sexual deviates', and so forth. This makes others shrink from support out of fear of gaining the same label, and you avoid dealing with issues.

6. Hit and Run. In any public forum, make a brief attack of your opponent or the opponent position and then scamper off before an answer can be fielded, or simply ignore any answer. This works extremely well in Internet and letters-to-the-editor environments where a steady stream of new identities can be called upon without having to explain criticism, reasoning -- simply make an accusation or other attack, never discussing issues, and never answering any subsequent response, for that would dignify the opponent's viewpoint.

9. Play Dumb. No matter what evidence or logical argument is offered, avoid discussing issues except with denials they have any credibility, make any sense, provide any proof, contain or make a point, have logic, or support a conclusion. Mix well for maximum effect.

17. Change the subject. Usually in connection with one of the other ploys listed here, find a way to side-track the discussion with abrasive or controversial comments in hopes of turning attention to a new, more manageable topic. This works especially well with companions who can 'argue' with you over the new topic and polarize the discussion arena in order to avoid discussing more key issues.

18. Emotionalize, Antagonize, and Goad Opponents. If you can't do anything else, chide and taunt your opponents and draw them into emotional responses which will tend to make them look foolish and overly motivated, and generally render their material somewhat less coherent. Not only will you avoid discussing the issues in the first instance, but even if their emotional response addresses the issue, you can further avoid the issues by then focusing on how 'sensitive they are to criticism.'
